Jeanean Songco Martin - Portfolio of Works
|
These small plein-air works are quick 3-4 hour studies. They are done in the field and are alla prima with minimal adjustments in the studio. Sometimes used as reference for larger more finished paintings but also considered finished pieces in their own right.

New Mexico is known as the Land of Enchantment. On my first vist in August 2008 I was in awe of the majestic mountains and vivid reds, browns and golden colors that were so different from my home in Maryland. On a return trip to New Mexico in January 2009 offered the beautiful snow-capped mountains. I look forward to returning this summer and fall for my workshop in September.

Ireland is a magical place. Everywhere on the Emerald Isle is a painting. I have concentrated my efforts in the "sunny south" in Co. Clare, Kerry and Wexford.

I always start my landscapes on the site "en plein-air" Because of the size I may not finish them in one sitting. In the event of consecutive painting I try to return on the same time and weather conditions. The larger pieces are worked as much as possible from nature but continued in the studio for refinement.

I have always enjoyed working from the figure. I belong two several different open drawing/painting groups to keep my drawing skills fresh. I continue to draw inspiration from my family and friends who are the models for my figurative work. I am a member of the Maryland Society of Portrait Painters

Still life paintings have always fascinated me. I love the works of the 17th c. Dutch masters, Chardin, Manet. I hope to create a believable sense of space, three-dimensionality, and descriptive textures.
